IT System: Traffic Simulation

Matthew Chater

Definition :

A road is an identifiable route, way or path between places. Roads are typically smoothed, paved, or otherwise prepared to allow easy travel. A road system is the sytem thatr ensure the smooth running of these routes.

Where are they used?

Road systems and the way we use them are a common obstacle in our lives, however, we often are not aware of the systems put in place in order for the system to run smoothly. That is, the electronic system that changes the lights from green to red, just as your about to go through the intersection. They are found at every intersection, every corner, every street. They ensure that the roads run smoothly and efficiently.

How do they work?

Transportation traffic simulation systems are considered in two was in ITGS:

"Transportation systems are typical man-machine systems, that is, the activities in the system include both human interaction (interaction between driver-vehicle-elements) and man-machine-interactions (driver interaction with the vehicle, with the traffic information and control system and with the physical road and street environment)."

Using the traffic light as an example of traffic simulation, refer to this page as a visual representation of how each electronic interaction relates to each other in order to for one harmonious system base.

Issues and Problems :

There can be many problems that can occur with these systems:

Mainly due to:
  • Human error -
      • the people that operate the systems
      • the people that use the systems ( drivers and pedestrians)
  • Computer error -
      • technology malfunction

Here is a flowchart explaining the processes in Traffic Light Simulation:
